New York State Department of Labor | Tue, May 13th, 2008East Syracuse, NY - The Construction and General Laborers’ Joint Apprenticeship Committee, Local 633, will conduct recruitment from May 21, 2008 through May 20, 2009 for 10 skilled construction craft laborer apprentices, State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today.
Applications will be available from 9 a.m. to noon, on the third Wednesday of each month, at Laborers’ Local 633, 7051 Fly Road, E. Syracuse.
The committee requires that applicants:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have a high school or general equivalency diploma, or have five years of documented trade experience.
- Have a valid driver's license -- apprentices will be required to drive sponsor’s vehicles.
- Be physically able to do the work and sign an affidavit stating they are drug free.
- Be willing to join the union.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
