Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce | Thu, December 13th, 2007M&T Vice President and Regional Economist to deliver Keynote Address
The Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce will host our 2008 Economic Forecast Luncheon, Wednesday, January 16 at the Convention Center at Oncenter. Hundreds of Central New York businessmen and women and other community leaders are expected to attend this annual luncheon event, which is sponsored once again this year by M & T Bank.
Gary Keith, vice president and regional economist for M & T Bank, will deliver the keynote address and Chamber President Darlene Kerr will highlight key portions of the Economic forecast. Copies of the complete forecast will be available for all attendees.
Each year for the past 13 years, this Forecast has been compiled with the help of more than 100 Chamber members. These professionals, representing some 16 business sectors, met with staff at the Chamber, as well as the Syracuse Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Manufacturers Association of Central New York, this month to develop the Forecast’s findings and identify major trends and factors that will impact the region’s economy during 2008 and beyond.
The Economic Forecast will focus on the following sectors: tourism; transportation; business services; construction & real estate; defense technology; finance & insurance; professional business services; retail; manufacturing; government; education/Pre-K – 12; higher education; energy technologies/environmental systems and services; healthcare; IT, telecom products and services; and human services and not-for-profits. The leaders are asked questions concerning major trends, expectations and impacts they predict will affect our economy in the future.
As a vice president in the Commercial Banking Division, keynote speaker Gary Keith is responsible for providing economic research and analysis support to M&T’s executive management and commercial banking business units. In addition to providing frequent updates on regional economic trends to M&T customers, regional business organizations and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Keith writes a monthly column on the local economy for the Rochester Business Journal.
Keith has a BS degree from Niagara University and an MBA from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is a member of the National Association of Business Economics, the American Economic Association and the Business Trends Committee of the Rochester Business Alliance.
