The Central New York market now has a link between employers and job seekers: CNY Employment Guide.

COLUMN:
A View From Outside

Something happened recently that I think we can all be proud of and take heart from.  Most everyone knows by now that US Airways Magazine is planning a profile on Syracuse and the surrounding region in their September issue.  This is a huge opportunity. Our lead story, on page one of this month’s Chamber News, has more details on the plans for the profile and how Chamber members can get involved.

Mayor Matt Driscoll and his staff have been coordinating this project with the help and support of the county, your Chamber, the MDA and the Convention & Visitors Bureau. The group hosted a reception last month with Pace Communications, the editors and writers who produce these city profiles for US Airways, designed to introduce this project to representatives of the CNY business, educational, cultural, healthcare and public sectors of our community.

After an introduction by the mayor, the lead representative from Pace stepped up to the podium and began by saying how excited they were to be here and to be focusing on the city of Syracuse.  And, then he said, “Ladies and gentlemen, I can’t tell you what a pleasure it is to be starting this project with such a clearly committed and cooperating group of community leaders.”  He went on to say that they do many of these community profiles each year, and have done dozens over the years, and the spirit of cooperation that he sensed among the community leaders in the room and in their preparation for our profile was rare.

Now, the more cynical among us may be tempted to say that he probably says that in every city they profile…I don’t think so.  He was sincere and we should see his remarks as the very positive observation of an experienced person from outside our community, to what too often goes unnoticed…our community is working together!

From Armory and Franklin Squares, to the 300 Block of Salina Street, from the significant projects underway at our medical and educational institutions, to the Near Westside Techology, Arts and Design Corridor, from the Connective Corridor and Center of Excellence to the new Convention Center Hotel, things are happening in our city.  Investments are being made, developments are underway…more are on the drawing board and we are achieving success.
We are succeeding in large measure, because of a shared vision and a renewed spirit of cooperation…and it’s obvious enough that visitors to our community sense it right away.  I’m sure that will be reflected in the upcoming profile, and that will make us all proud!

Thank you for all you do.
