The Central New York market now has a link between employers and job seekers: CNY Employment Guide.

COLUMN:
"Creative Core" Portal Goes Online

A new Web Portal that will function as a centerpiece in the effort to brand the 12-county region as New York's Creative Core: www.creativecoreny.com was launched during a ceremony at the Syracuse University's Warehouse in Armory Square August 20.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the partners in the project including the Metropolitan Development Association, the overall project coordinators, as well as the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce and the Manufactures Association of Central New York.

The Creative Core Regional Portal is the gateway to a network of local and regional websites: internal sites unique to the portal, as well as external sites connected through overview pages, direct links and a powerful search engine.  Together, this network delivers the central message of our regional marketing effort - Real. Smart. Easy.

The website's tone and graphics convey the region's "sense of place" - how things work, the way things are in the Creative Core - all with a sense of vibrancy, movement and growth. Functionally, the site will present easy access to information on lifestyle, employment and amenities - making a compelling case for attracting new talent and retaining valuable members of our region's workforce.

The Creative Core Regional Portal was made possible by a series of New York State Assembly grants secured by Assemblyman William Magnarelli.

"There has been a lot of discussion recently about the 'lack of brain gain' in the Central New York region.  The launch of this portal is a major step in our effort to increase our intellectual capital as a region by utilizing an innovative, online portal to entice high-skilled
workers to live and work here, and retain the workers we already have," said Magnarelli.  "The project has brought together many of the major economic development partners in Central New York so that we are all working for the same goal - bringing and keeping jobs here in Central New York."

This project has been a collective endeavor by a number of partners.  In addition to the MDA, MACNY and the Chamber, other partners have included the DaVinci Project, Sensis Corporation, and Syracuse University.

The success of this portal is an example of how individual organizations can come together to create an extremely valuable resource for our community.  The efficiency of this approach, and the consistency of the message regarding opportunities and quality of life here in the Creative
Core, will not only impress qualified job candidates, it will showcase all that is great about our community to potential visitors and prospective new businesses."

The Creative Core portal consists of three main sections.

Real people offering their testimonials about why they choose to live and work in Central Upstate New York.  These testimonials include personal statements, lists of their favorite things about the area, and virtual tours of the region.

Smart links and information about everything from parks and recreation to resources for entrepreneurs looking to start a new business.

Easy job search.  The portal provides links to more than 9,000 current opportunities at every level and across all industries within the 12 county region.  These services are free of charge for applicants and employers.

The Creative Core Regional Portal will grow and expand over the next three months as new information, links and resources from across the region are added.  When complete, the portal will provide a comprehensive view of our 12-county region.

The Creative Core regional branding initiative is a product of the Central Upstate Regional Alliance and is currently supported by more than 130 business, academic, government and economic development partners throughout the region.  The goal is to identify New York's Creative Core as the place where creative energy, innovation, entrepreneurship, arts & culture, and recreation all come together.  For
