SRCTec, Inc. and Natur-Tyme, Inc. Take Top Honors at 2009 Chamber Business of the Year Awards

SRCTec, Inc., and Natur-Tyme, Inc. received top honors at the 20th Annual Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Awards at the Nicholas J. Pirro Onondaga County Convention Center at Oncenter on Thursday evening, March 12.

New York State Governor David Paterson delivered the keynote address which included two major announcements to more than 600 attendees.  First, he made pubic the designation of Benefit Specialists of NY (BSNY) as the administrator of the Healthy NY Upstate Pilot Project.  BSNY is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce.

Second, the Governor revealed that Sensis Corporation has received a $5 million grant from Empire State Development to put towards the expansion of its headquarters in East Syracuse.  The expansion will accommodate future growth and add 300 more employees, including engineers, computer scientists and technology support personnel.  According to the Governor’s office, the 300 new jobs will have an average salary of $85,000.

In honor of the 20th anniversary of the event, the Chamber worked in partnership with the Onondaga Historical Association and Visual Technologies Corporation to produce a video presentation titled “Syracuse Business – Past, Present & Future.”  The video takes you on a journey beginning in the late 1800’s, continues through today and into the future, while featuring many of Syracuse’s most prominent businesses and former Business of the Year winners.  The video is available for purchase.  Please see page 39 for more information.

Following the highlight video, awards were presented to Central New York companies and organizations that have excelled in the following areas: growth, workplace innovation and commitment to community.

Finalists for Business of the Year for a company or organization with more than 50 employees were SRCTec, Inc. and Sensis Corporation.  The honor went to SRCTec, Inc.

Natur-Tyme, Inc. and C.R. Fletcher Associates, Inc. were vying for the award for a company with fewer than 50 employees.  The award was presented to Natur-Tyme, Inc.

A third award for Community Involvement went to SRC/SRCTec, Inc.  Franciscan Management Services was the other finalist for this award.  The Non-Profit Business of the Year award was presented to Arc of Onondaga.  Meals on Wheels of Syracuse was the runner up in that category.

Doug Logan of Time Warner Sports was the master of ceremonies for the evening.  WSYR Radio’s Jim Reith broadcast his show from the event earlier in the day, interviewing the Governor, Mayor Driscoll and me, among other special guests.  The Annual Dinner is a chance to recognize Chamber members, look back at accomplishments during the past year and look ahead with renewed commitment and optimism for the coming year.  The Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce is the largest business membership organization in Central New York with nearly 2,100 member organizations employing more that 140,000 individuals.
