The Central New York market now has a link between employers and job seekers: CNY Employment Guide.
Jordan Nott | Tue, May 1st, 2007MACNY's Karen DeJarnette, Vice President, Training and Corporate Development, has been awarded the 2006 Citation Award for the New York Chapter of the International Association of Workforce Professionals(IAWP). DeJarnette has been with MACNY for four years, directing MACNY's training services and workforce development efforts. She is
also an adjunct professor at Syracuse University.
The Citation Award is one of the highest honors that IAWP presents to individuals making outstanding contributions to workforce development. DeJarnette is now one of nine semifinalists in the International Competition. She will accept the state chapter's award on Friday, April
27th in Buffalo. The International Competition will conclude at a June conference in Boise, Idaho.
Randy Wolken, MACNY President, praised DeJarnette's successes, stating, "Karen's contributions to workforce development throughout the region are remarkable. She is an invaluable asset, both to MACNY and Central New York as a whole. MACNY congratulates her on winning this
prestigious award."
In her time at MACNY, DeJarnette has been involved in significant workforce development projects. Most recently, she played an integral role in the Journey To Jobs Workforce Summit, assisting in both the planning of the Summit and Central New York's Regional Workforce Action
Agenda. She has also taken an active role in developing advanced certifications for the manufacturing sector. With such a certificate, employers would save time by recruiting only those applicants who have the skills required for their jobs; and job seekers will be able to quickly acquire and document the skills employers require. The ultimate
benefit to the region is that economic developers can demonstrate the region is "work-ready".
DeJarnette shares her success with other workforce developers in the region, noting, "This award truly represents our collaborative efforts in CNY to address the workforce crisis."
The association granting the award, IAWP, is a non-profit educational association representing 13,000 professionals worldwide who work in public and private workforce development programs. The organization is dedicated to advancing the field of workforce development through
education, research, legislative action, financial support,
international networking, and publications.
The Manufacturers Association of Central New York represents over 300 companies in a nineteen county region in Central Upstate New York. The 94-year-old organization provides information, services, training, purchasing consortiums, and advocacy support for its members.
