Darlene Kerr | Tue, April 24th, 2007Renaissance Initiatives, Resources and Tools to be Outlined
A series of five, two-hour presentations, outlining economic development initiatives, resources and tools available to companies, investors and developers interested in participating in the renaissance that is taking place in Metro Syracuse has been announced.
The kick-off presentation, scheduled for Wednesday, April 25, will be a broad overview of current and anticipated major development initiatives already underway, or planned for the near future, in and around the Metro Syracuse area. To date, speakers include County Executive Nick Pirro, Mayor Matt Driscoll, Metropolitan Development Association President Irwin Davis and me.
One of the overall objectives of the series is to insure that developers, large and small, considering redevelopment or rehabilitation of downtown buildings are aware of all the potential funding and financing programs that are available to assist them.
In addition to developers themselves, the target audiences for these presentations will be those most likely to bring these resources to the attention and benefit of companies or developers considering eligible projects. This could include bankers, investors, attorneys, accountants, architects, real estate professionals and business consultants.
After the kick off presentation, topics that will be covered each week in May include: an overview of economic development programs, residential and commercial real estate projects, new market and historic tax credits and specific county and state programs.
Presentations will also focus on specific types of assistance to include financial, tax-based, energy, technology and workforce. Actual program beneficiaries from different sectors will discuss their experiences to demonstrate how these programs work together and the great range of projects that can be encompassed by them.
Peggy Adams, the executive director of the Greater Syracuse Business Development Corporation (GSBDC) and program coordinator, said she thinks it is very important and appropriate to celebrate the successes that have already taken place in the Metro area, and some of that would take place at the first presentation. Peggy also said it is extremely important that we maximize this opportunity to make the business community and service providers aware of the tools and opportunities that are available to assist them in participating in the exciting transformation that is taking place in the city of Syracuse and the entire Metro area.
The series of presentations has been developed by a public/private partnership made up of area economic development organizations to include the Syracuse Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO), Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board, Empire State Development Corporation, Onondaga County Industrial Development Agency (OCIDA), Syracuse Industrial Development Agency (SIDA), the Metropolitan Development Association (MDA), the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce and its affiliate the Greater Syracuse Business Development Corporation (GSBDC).
Sponsors for the series include the National Development Council, M & T Bank, Key Bank, Community Preservation Corporation, Clough Harbour & Associates and National Grid. The presentations are free and open to the public, reservations are required. For more information and to make reservations call Connie Maute at (315) 470-1886 or e-mail
