Women TIES grow statewide connections

Women TIES grow statewide connections

In 2005, Women TIES, Women Together Inspiring Entrepreneurial Success, was created to foster a regional marketplace for women entrepreneurs in Central New York. The company’s mission to promote women-owned businesses through the region grew into a statewide effort in October 2007. On Jan. 16, at the organization’s first event of 2008, one third of the attendees were from cities outside of the Syracuse area; indicating the success of the company’s unique mission.
Women entrepreneurs from Rochester, Ithaca, Cortland, Utica, New Hartford and Oswego traveled to Syracuse to attend the Women TIES Growth Discussion Luncheon at the Craftsman Inn in Fayetteville. This event earmarks the first time one third of the audience has been entrepreneurs from outside of Syracuse.
“As Women TIES continues to spread the message for women to network with other women business owners regionally and statewide, we expect to witness an increase in diverse regional representation at all our events,” said Tracy Higginbotham, president. “There is a desire between women to foster economic connections with other women outside of their geographic area to increase their corporate visibility and sales.”
In 2008, Women TIES will host two luncheons each month; one in Syracuse and one in a different CNY city. Regional events have been scheduled, or are being scheduled, for Ithaca, Auburn, Utica, Oswego and Canandaigua.
“We expect Syracuse-based women entrepreneurs to travel to other regional cities to network as much as we expect to repeat tomorrow’s geographic representation at future Syracuse luncheons,” Higginbotham said.
