New York State Department of Labor | Mon, April 7th, 2008Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Heat and Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers Joint Apprenticeship Committee, Local 30, will conduct recruitment from March 26 through November 26, 2008 for four insulation and asbestos worker apprentices, State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today.
Applications can be obtained at the local, 150 Midler Park Drive, Syracuse, from 9 a.m. to noon the fourth Wednesday of each month.
The committee requires that applicants:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have a high school or general equivalency diploma -- proof required after selection for the program.
- Take an aptitude test.
- Have lived within the local's geographic jurisdiction for at least one year prior to recruitment -- Broome, Cayuga, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, Otsego, Schuyler, Seneca, St. Lawrence, Tioga, or Tompkins County.
- Take a physical examination and drug screening at the committee's expense -- if selected for the program.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
