Tech Garden Launches New Economy Network

If it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a whole region’s resources to grow a high-tech business venture.  That is the lesson that came through loud and clear when the Tech Garden team launched a strategic review of its accomplishments in late 2007.  According to Tech Garden President Nasir Ali, the Tech Garden team has met with over 200 early stage technology entrepreneurs since 2004.  The Tech Garden is proud to provide these startups with exceptional resources that are spread across Upstate’s vast geography.

While much of the press coverage for the Chamber’s efforts to promote technology entrepreneurship has focused on the award-winning Tech Garden building and its 26 tenants, a less visible but even more important development has been the strong ties that are being built with numerous organizations and individuals who each offer a piece of the puzzle that makes up a successful technology venture.  The Tech Garden’s partnerships and pioneering initiatives have put Syracuse at the crossroads of Upstate NY’s new economy.

After reviewing dozens of win-win collaborative relationships The Tech Garden has developed with professional service providers, premiere academic research institutions, leading technology companies and regional economic development organizations, it became clear a New Economy Network was born from these partnerships. In order to increase the visibility and recognition of this network, opportunities were presented to participate in it and use the new Tech Garden website (www.thetechgarden.com) to prominently feature those that do participate as organizations making positive contributions to our emerging economy. These companies would become members of the New Economy Network, an enhanced Chamber membership.

While there are many organizations providing assistance to entrepreneurs, The Tech Garden’s close relationship with the Chamber means entrepreneurs have unparalleled access to people who are working at the region’s best professional and technical companies.  The Tech Garden has experienced that professional services firms are eager to guide and mentor startups because of both the psychic energy gained from working with entrepreneurs as well as the possibility that a successful startup could become a future paying client.

In addition to tech entrepreneurs and professional services providers, there are a number of for-profit, non-profit, and government entities that share The Tech Garden’s goals of promoting technology entrepreneurship.  From the technical perspective, the new thinking and collaborative partnerships generated by NY’s research universities, Centers of Advanced Technologies and Centers of Excellence, offer unparalleled value if tech entrepreneurs can be guided to the right resource.  From a financial perspective, The Tech Garden is connected to each of NY’s angel/seed financing groups and venture capital firms, and also offers contacts to more traditional private and public financing sources.

As The Tech Garden enters a new phase in its evolution, New Economy Network partners will play a key role in the future direction of this organization.  To learn more about how your firm can benefit from joining the Network, contact Nasir Ali (nasir@thetechgarden.com) or Paul Brooks (paul@thetechgarden.com).
