Darlene Kerr | Fri, June 29th, 2007US Airways Magazine, the in-flight, passenger-focused periodical for the nation’s fifth largest airline, will feature the city of Syracuse and the surrounding region in issues of the magazine that will be aboard all their flights during the month of September.
The profile, which is expected to be 36 pages or more, will shine a positive light on our area’s economic focus and successes, cultural resources, outstanding colleges and universities, health care system, leadership role in environmental and energy initiatives and our abundant recreational and entertainment opportunities.
One of the nation’s largest carriers, US Airways operates more than 4,300 daily flights to 235 cities in 36 countries. The magazine is read by more than 2.66 million passengers each month. In addition, the profile will remain on the US Airways’ Web site for a year. All together, the profile has the potential to reach as many as 5.8 million readers.
This is obviously a huge opportunity for our city, county and surrounding region. This profile will allow us to reach a large readership consisting of influential business leaders and decision makers, along with sophisticated leisure travelers, and it presents us with an almost unprecedented opportunity to showcase our community. This September is also perfect timing for the profile as thousands of additional corporate and leisure travelers are expected to visit our area to attend the PGA’s Turning Stone Resort Championship set for September 17-23. All of these readers are precisely the type of people who we want to impress with the promise and potential of our area.
Editors and staff members of Pace Communications, the firm that writes and produces the city profiles for the magazine, met with city, county, Chamber, MDA and MACNY leaders, along with community educational, health care and cultural representatives at a reception June 13, and at a working meeting hosted by Syracuse Mayor Matt Driscoll the next day. The city hall meeting focused on topics and story ideas for the profile. Work is currently underway on the stories and features, and a week long community-wide photo session is scheduled for this month.
The profile will be approximately 60 percent stories and features and 40 percent advertising. Advertising opportunities for Syracuse-area businesses and community organizations are outlined in a media kit specially designed for this issue.
For more information regarding advertising in the profile, or for copies of the media kit, contact Carsten Morgan, US Airways Magazine representative, at (610) 438-1190. Chamber members with suggestions for profile stories should e-mail them to
